Scream-it.com finds the winning streak in the Isle of Mann! RACE HEAT 1Isleof MannSaturday 13thSeptember Perfect racing conditions for us...we get out early and go for a walk across the promenade in front of Douglas Bay. Still licking our wounds from our Liverpool penalty and subsequent disqualification for causing a Red Flag in 'that fateful race' when I threw Nikki out of the boat in front of Albert Dock. Now a new race was in front of us and issues put into history. Scream-it.com started on the inside line alongside Negotiator. We stormed toward the first turn bouy in front of the crowds, foot flat to the floor, and got their 1st! This is becoming an almost expected event but following testing we knew we were going to be fast. We left the rest of the fleet in our wake and basically carried on for another 11 laps before taking the chquered flag in our first 1st in front of the whole 22 racing fleet. Then guess what? We entered Douglas harbour and the continuous alarm sounded the end of our engine mounts...how about that for luck? So 20 points and a replacement engine organised with Honda for the next day. SUNDAY FINAL 1 - Rough as rats and carnage all round! In the morning we tested our replacement engine and speed was well down. A quick fix should prove to raise the speed. But as the visibility in Douglas Bay dropped fast and the seas mounted a 1.5m and growing swell I have to confess we were not best prepared. But out we went and started to find ourselves falling further and further behind. Huge bucketing drop outs gave me very bad spinal compression as I hadn't taken foam under my seat and as the race progressed I suffered massive pain in my back and neck. Not sure what the result was but in we came after seeing Buildbase overturn, Premier Cru nearly go over in the start run and Claygate expell his crew. I reckon we were hitting 3m swells at stages and with a boat that seemed under powered we just suffered! SUNDAY FINAL 2 - RG enjoys the comfort of the local hospital! Crews decided that despite the conditions it was voted to go again into the swelling bay and race again. I have to confess I crawled out of the boat after the first race and dreaded going out to race again but points were important as Real Player broke his engine and was out. The penalties had dropped us massively from 2nd to 8th in the Championship so here was our chance to regain position and get back into the top 5. That we did. In the process we broke the boat, nearly broke my back and the taste of hospital food was inevitable as I lost feeling down one side and took a trip to Noble Hospital in an ambulance bound up so tightly i couldn't move which is a consumation devoutly to be wished :-( I would like to thank the staff at Noble Hospital for their care. The feeling came back through the night, advised that the stroke they told me I may have had was not happening which was a huge relief to me. And guess what?We ended up 5thin the Championship. After only our second season racing at this level I have to say we are thrilled as we now know we are serious contenders for the Championship title in 2009! HONDA F4SA

2008 celebrates an impressive 10th season of the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat Series which this year boasts an incredible 75 races since the Series first began on 29 May 1999 on a stormy Saturday in Torquay. The inaugural race was made-up of five two-person crews bravely taking to the water amidst thunder, lightning, hail and high winds. Honda launched its first large scale outboard engine in 1999, the 4-stroke BF130. Before that it was common belief that a 4-stroke engine could not match the output of a 2-stroke. However, Honda believed that with their 4-stroke, they had built an engine that could more than out-do a 2-stroke so, always up for a challenge, Honda decided that the best way to prove the performance of its new engine was simple - they'd race it! With the help of eight-times Class 1 World Powerboat champion Steve Curtis, Honda set about creating a championship which would fundamentally change powerboat racing in the UK and around the world. With all teams competing in identical boats powered by standard Honda engines, the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Series demands spectacular skill and competitor competence that makes winning dependent on navigator and driver deftness alone. The original Honda Formula 4-stroke fleet is otherwise almost unrecognisable. Five 130hp boats have grown into 17 upgraded 150hp boats. The original deep-vee hull is still in evidence but on the newer models has been remoulded to take on a more sporting appearance. And the championship now has its own sister series for competitors to graduate into - the 225hp class - which already boasts 16 boats. "It's incredible to look back over nine years and see how much we've achieved," comments Martin Sanders, General Manager, Honda (UK) Power Equipment. "Back in 1999 the championship was purely a marketing idea. We looked at our new large 4-stroke engines and discussed how to prove that their performance was similar to that of traditional 2-strokes without the environmental drawbacks. The answer of course, given Honda's unique track heritage, was to race them. "The concept developed from there. We looked for a suitable championship to get involved in but when we couldn't find one, decided to start our own. The main criterion was to bring the excitement of offshore powerboat racing within the reach of ordinary pleasure boaters. We therefore chose a race hull that would be inexpensive and equally at home cruising the Solent as when battling for race honours. We put production, warrantied Honda 130hp engines on the back and introduced strict one-design, no modification rules. Honda Formula 4-Stroke was born. "The five boats that competed in 1999 grew into eight boats for 2000," continued Sanders. "It was then that Channel 4 saw the potential of the series and decided to put powerboat racing back on terrestrial television for the first time in over a decade. 2001 saw the start of an on-running relationship between Honda Formula 4-Stroke and Formula 1 when Jordan Grand Prix bought a boat for journalists to race. In 2002 we introduced three prototype 225hp race boats to run alongside the then 15-strong 130hp fleet and our status as the world's largest offshore race series was confirmed. We had undoubtedly outgrown traditional powerboat race events and in response, set up the Formula 4-Stroke Association to organise dedicated Honda Formula 4-Stroke Grands Prix. This gave us a solid foundation to build on in 2003, when we started introducing additional activities at each event to keep spectators entertained between races.
